Three Things Thursday 10.22.15

Three Things Thursday 10.22.15

My family and I are in the midst of the Hindu high holiday season, Navratri has come and gone, and today is Dushera also known as Vijaydashami. Dushera marks the day when Shri Ram defeated Ravan. Ravan had capture Shri Ram's wife Sita. Around the world, on the night of Dushera, an effigy of Ravan and his ten heads are burnt. Tonight followers of Hinduism celebrate the victory of good over evil and encourage everyone to bring on more positive attributes into their life.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy & Healthy Dushera!

Today's Three Things Thursday is dedicated how I plan to add a more positive spin to my life!

1: To become more charitable, not just with my money, but with my time as well. I have decided to volunteer with Literacy Nassau, a local organization that helps new immigrants to Long Island to learn English. I am eagerly awaiting to get matched with my student!

2: Calm. Earlier this year, I started going to this amazing yoga studio, and it had really helped me remain calm in situation. However, I want to take this practice one step further and incorporate it into my job. Sometimes, more often then not, work gets stressful I freak out, I plan step back and reanalyze the situation.

3: I have struggled with my body weight since I was a child. Starting this Dushera, I promise to have a more positive outlook on my body and to say #nobodyshame, this is who I am and I am FABULOUS!

Three Things Thursday 10.15.15

Three Things Thursday 10.15.15

This weekend, is my 31st birthday. I always thought I would be married and a mother (of 2?) by the time I turned 30. Last year my birthday was semi sweet, I was excited to reach a new milestone, however a little bummed that life didn't turn out as I thought. I decided I wasn't going to follow into the trap of being pressured to get married or feel guilty that I wasn't married with kids. I have accomplished a lot in the last year, I have taken trips around the world and I have learned to be content with everything I have. I look forward to turning 31 this weekend!

Today's Three Things Thursday are my favorite quotes that helped me in the last year!

1:

Being a special education teacher, there is a lot of paperwork on top of all the lesson plans. Working with students on the Autism Spectrum, almost all of the materials used in class needed to be laminated and then velcro, I would nearly end up staying at work for an extra 3 hours every day (I have even gone stayed until 9:15pm!!!!) In June I was given an opportunity to change position to an special ed support teacher, I initially refused, but after mulling it over, I decided to accept the position. Since starting in September, I have only stayed after work once, I like being able to put myself first. I can attend my yoga classes, go out for happy hour or go home in during day light and be a coach potato to catch up on my shows.

2:

I used to say "I want to travel the world", since my 30th birthday, I have taken two trips that have taken me around the world, first to South Africa and second to Australia/New Zealand. I have learned so much about myself in the midst of traveling, also seeing how others around the world survive with so little, makes you appreciate the luxuries with have in the US!

3:

I would say to no to new activities, in the fear of failing or not wanting to explore something new. Since turning 30, I have been saying "yes" more! I have explored new activities and met new people that I would have missed out on if I had said no.

Three Things Thursday 10.8.15

Three Things Thursday 10.8.15

Another week, another Three Things Thursday! My 2nd in a row! Whoohoo!

This has been an exciting week for me! Here are the top 3 reasons why!

1: On Sunday, a friend and I went to see Russell Peters who was on Long Island for his Almost Famous tour! I had seen him a few years back in a small comedy club. However, seeing him at Westbury Theatre a part of his tour, was amazing. The energy at the venue was amazing. My head was hurting the next day from laughing so much! Another awesome moment, when Russell Peters retweeted my tweet! Definitely a fangirl moment! ::swoon::

2: I got into a minor fender bender in the commuter parking lot. My insurance company issued my $500 deductible, since I was at 0% liability.

3: I joined the Living Well and Spending Zero 31 day challenge! Eight days in and I am hanging in there! I have had to make some purchases that were a necessity, my monthly commuter pass and gas for my car. However, I have made it an effort to pack my lunches daily and to even make my tea from home! This is a difficult month to participate in the challenge, since there are so many Hindu holidays in the next few weeks! Three Things Thursday 10.1.15

Three Things Thursday 10.1.15

Wow, where has time gone? Since the last time I blogged a Three Things Thursday, the season has changed from summer to autumn, I have taken two AMAZING trips and the new school year has started.

Today's Three Things Thursday is dedicated to why October is my favorite!

1: October is the month of my birth!

2: It is the Hindu holiday season! This is the Hindu equivalent of the American holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years! On the first day of Navratri (Tuesday, October 12th this year), I will start to decorate the house-inside and out!

3: It is sweater weather! I love when you are cuddled up in a sweater during a crisp fall day. This sweater is in my online shopping cart!
